Lab 21 was founded in 2005 to support healthcare providers and the pharmaceutical and biotechnical industries with technically advanced testing services. At the outset the company did not have any dedicated IT staff, so they needed to find a local company who could provide total IT solutions, from pre-sales advice and product recommendations right through to installation and support – and they chose Network Technologies.
Network Technologies began with the network infrastructure. Using Cisco PoE-enabled switches we were able to provide high-speed links between desktops, printers and servers, as well as future-proof the solution for voice and video over IP. Cisco 2800 series routers were also installed to service a leased line link between Lab21’s two sites and provide firewall security. Our sister company was introduced to install the structured wiring, whilst we provided custom-built file servers, Sony desktops, laptop computers and HP printers.
When confronted with a large IT and telecoms project it was great to have Network Technologies on board to source all the IT hardware and software required for the new business. Having one supplier to provide everything – from servers, desktops, laptops, routers and switches to Microsoft licensing, anti-virus software and firewalls – was great for us, and only one supplier meant just one point of contact.
During the initial installation an IT manager was employed and he was immediately impressed with the quality of the equipment that we had implemented. We worked with the IT manager during the installations and later enrolled Lab21 in a Microsoft Open License agreement, simplifying and reducing the overall cost of their software needs in the process.
